Zdeno Chara is coming off an 8 goal, 12 assist season in which he only played 63 games. Chara, like many other Bruins, battled injuries last year. Thus leaving many to believe his lack of speed and hitting is because of his knee.
But let's just remember this, Chara is going into his age 38 season and he has been getting burned on defense many times over the course of the last three years. While the point dip may be because of his lack of time spent on the ice, it's hard for me to believe he'll put up amazing numbers next season.
However, I do think he will score more and be more involved in the physical game. He is nowhere near the caliber player he was when he was consistently competing for the Norris Trophy.
Chara cannot be in the top line of Defense this season, for he can't get back against the fast lines he'll have to face this season. He's best suited as a 2nd or 3rd liner where he has a little more margin for error and can get more physical and ring some more clappers without really worrying about having to get back against Seguin, Crosby, Ovechkin, or Stepan.
If the Bruins look to get back to the playoffs this year, they'll need a big impact from Chara, especially since they moved Dougie Hamilton to Calgary this offseason.
My prediction: 13 goals, 25 assists, 38 points
