It's hard to believe that Robert Griffin III is just 3 seasons removed from being Offensive Rookie of the Year, a playoff QB, and a Pro Bowler. This guy started his career 3-6 and won 7 straight to make the playoffs. While losing in the first round, Griffin suffered a knee injury. Since then, he's certainly been an upsetting player to watch. All the tools are there, but he just cannot get the time to throw the ball and let his receivers help him.
Let's not forget he was pretty much asked to change his style from the way it was when he was originally drafted by the Redskins back in 2012.
Now he is basically the odd man out in Washington. Kirk Cousins looks like a solid QB who can make some very good decisions when both throwing and running the ball. So RG3's short career with the Skins could be coming to an end.
Not necessarily, though.
Griffin did run a 4.38 second 40-yard dash back at the Draft Combine before being taken 2nd overall by the Redskins. That's very good. The speed is definitely there, so he could provide another weapon for Kirk Cousins as a wide receiver. Having had knee injuries in the past, I don't see him as much of a vertical threat like Desean Jackson, but I could see him play the role that Julian Edelman plays for the Pats, a solid slot receiver who can make some great plays after the catch.
Other options though are vacant/up for grabs QB spots in places like St. Louis, New Orleans in a few years, or Dallas. The general consensus has him going to the Cowboys, but the Redskins don't have to release him.
It's kind of a risk to convert RG3 to a different position now that he's been in the league for a few years. But the 6'2" 220-pound QB out of Baylor is a very good athlete, very quick, and could open up space for the likes of Desean Jackson and Pierre Garcon.
