Despite all the overhype the Jets and Bills have gotten by mainstream sports media, I think that the biggest challenge the Patriots will face in the division will actually be Miami this upcoming season. The Jets did shore up their secondary by adding Revis, but with Geno Smith as quarterback I don’t expect much from them, maybe a .500 team at best.
The Bills have gotten a lot of press for adding Rex Ryan as coach, but really other than that nothing major jumps out at me. They were overhyped last year and did squat during the season. Miami to me has done much more than either of those two teams to warrant the Patriots attention. Last season the Dolphins finished 12th defensively and added DT Ndamukong Suh with the biggest contract ever for a defensive player.
That should bump that defense up a few notches for sure. Then they drafted a WR, DeVante Parker, from Louisville adding him to a receiving core that already included Greg Jennings and Rishard Matthews. QB, Ryan Tannehil will have plenty of guys to pass to next season. Ultimately, the improved Dolphins will not be a threat to the incumbent division champion Patriots. I don’t care if Brady ends up serving all four games of the suspension, the Patriots will still take the division. Don’t sleep on Miami too much though as I wouldn’t be shocked if they snuck into the playoffs in a wild card spot.
