Whether we choose to believe it or not, Tom Brady's career isn't going to last forever. So for that, it's time for the Patriots to begin looking for a good, young backup that will be ready to take the reigns from TB12 when he decides to hang them up.
But do the Pats already have their next QB on the roster?
I'm talking about Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett; both have shown some flashes in their brief amount of reps as Patriots quarterback. Jimmy G may have had a tough end to his preseason campaign, but he made up for that with a solid showing in a Week One victory vs. the Cardinals (24-33 for 264 yards, 1 TD and no INTs). As for Brissett, he had a pretty impressive camp despite inconsistent in-game reps. Even if the numbers weren't there, the poise and confidence that Jacoby Brissett played with was definitely something worth noting.
So who is the QB of the future?
Well, if Jimmy G puts up 3 more games like he did against the Cards, that only skyrockets his trade value for teams looking into QBs like the Browns. And with guys like Joe Thomas and Josh Gordon being guys the Pats may be interested in, Jimmy G in a deal for one of those guys is possible.
So for that, I must say that Brissett is the quarterback of the future, which doesn't seem all that bad because he already looks decent and can only improve under the GOAT.
I think the Patriots nailed something here with Brissett and he could be special if he continues improving.
