Having finished 5-5 in their last ten games, the Celtics have started to cool off a bit in the month of March. They have slid down from the number three seed in the east to the number five. Perhaps getting some talent at the deadline would have been a good idea Danny.... Anyways, if the playoffs were to end tomorrow the Celtics would face off against a tough Miami Heat team and the Heat would have home court advantage. This scenario certainly would not be to may fans liking because the Heat have recovered this year and have a lot of depth and experience. So this begs the question, which team in the first round do the Celtics have the best shot at beating? Out of the list of current playoff teams I believe that the Celtics would be heavily favored in a matchup with the Charlotte Hornets
All the other playoff teams, even the 8th seed Chicago Bulls have a lot of playoff experience. The Hornets do not have a lot of playoff experience and are a very incomplete team. If the Celtics were able to get home court advantage I predict that the series could end in as early as five games. Despite how they have been playing lately, this year's Celtic team is built perfectly to take down the Hornets. The Hornets lack depth and that is the Celtics greatest strength. The Hornets are notably thin at the shooting guard position and their starter is Courtney Lee, a former flop of a bench player for the Celtics. With the Celtics tremendous depth at the wing and guard positions, the Hornets second unit would simply be no match for the Celtics.
If Celtics fans want the best shot at seeing the Celtics advance to the second round for the first time since 2012, our best bet is to get home court advantage against the Hornets. With about three weeks left in the season this is certainly feasible given the volatility of the eastern conference.
