A lot happened this weekend in college football and the new rankings showed that there is plenty to talk about.
One of the biggest questions coming off of the new playoff rankings is how long Washington is going to be at the number 4 spot. If Washington wins Friday against Colorado, which by no means is an automatic game, I think that would lock them into the playoff. Now if they lose, I think it's almost impossible for them to get in because there are to many teams with similar records with better wins, such as Michigan, Wisconsin and Penn State.
Michigan has one the most interesting cases of the year because of how messed up the Big 10 divisions are this year. The top team in their division (Penn State) lost to Michigan by 39. The second place team (Ohio State) beat them in double OT this past weekend. Now the other team that is in the Big 10 championship is Wisconsin, which also lost to Michigan. If Washington loses and Penn State wins, I think they could sneak into the number 4 spot and square off against Alabama.
Penn State has quietly had an outstanding season and, with the Big 10 championship on the line against Wisconsin this week, a lot can happen depending on the result of the game. If Penn State wins, it's still hard for me to see them getting into the playoff but with the committee you never truly know.
This weekend may very well be the biggest of the year and no matter what happens, it's going to be fun to watch.
