I am sure Donald Trump is extremely upset to lose the old Cadillac Championship from Doral in south Florida. But to lose the tournament to Mexico of all places has to be a total kick in the balls for the Donald. The irony is hilarious, based on what Trump says about Mexico and his wall.
This ends a 55-year streak of hosting a tournament for Doral. The move away from Doral is not completely political, (though it probably factored in). Many have began to speculate about whether Trump’s golf courses should be allowed to host golf tournaments. This is one of the main reasons why sports and politics should always be kept separate (in a perfect world).
The WGC event was without a tournament sponsor moving forward because Cadillac was stepping aside from the tournament. If the event were able to land a title sponsor, it would have stayed in South Florida.
The loss of the Miami tournament is a yuge blow to the local economy. Hundreds of jobs will be lost across the border to Mexico. Trump has owned Doral for the last 5 years and poured millions of dollars into renovating the course, and now, it appears all for nothing.
