The Bruins have moved to 4-0 in the preseason and already we have had a few worrisome moments with our D-men. Seids has been sidelined and Chara, thankfully, is only day-to-day. It could be a lot worse, and Chara could have started the season on the DL and then we may be in trouble.
But there’s no point in talking about the “what ifs”. What we know now is that we have three young D who are ready to prove that they deserve to be here. Trotman, Morrow and Miller are all waiting for their chance, and with these injuries, their chance is here.
Subban and Zane were dented down to Providence so it looks like the back up position is a fight between Smith and Gustavsson..who you got? Verern or up and coming rookie?
Miller is getting plenty of time on the powerplay, thanks to his AHL hardest shot, and from what I’ve seen, he looks very promising. Morrow played an excellent game against the Rangers, coming up huge on the penalty kill in overtime. He finished the night with an assist and he logged 26:53 minutes of ice-time. He is proving to have great dependability in all of the zones and is showing the fans and the organization that he is ready to be here.
We will continue to keep hearing rumours of a Byfuglien trade – which I can only hope for – and as well as some weaker names like Schenn and MacDonald. Personally, I would be packaging up Koko and a first rounder with possibly another prospect and go out and get Big Buf. I think he would be excellent for the Bruins. Yes, it is going to be pricey, but, I think the price will go up the closer we get to the deadline, so why not get him now, especially with Koko voicing his displeasure of not making the NHL roster.
A few things to think about:
