For those of you eager to see what Drew Pomeranz brings to the table, his Red Sox debut has been announced. Pomeranz will make his first start in Boston on Wednesday, July 20th against the first place San Francisco Giants at Fenway Park.
The All-Star lefty will be going up against Matt Cain, who has a 1-5 record and a 5.34 ERA, or Madison Bumgarner, who is 10-5 with a 2.12 ERA.. The Giants have the most wins in the MLB with 57, and should prove to be a tough matchup and debut for Pomeranz.
Another question surrounding the acquistion of Pomeranz is which number he will be wearing in a Red Sox uniform, which was answered yesterday by the Red Sox Twitter account.
Pomeranz wore number 13 in San Diego, but doesn't seem like he'll be able to keep that with Hanley already sporting it. Justin Hathaway, of NESN, mentioned that he wore number 47 his rookie year with Rockies. Although Shaw currently wears that number, perhaps a deal could be worked out. Nevertheless, Pomeranz decided on 31. Pomeranz wore number 13 with the Rockies, Athletics and Padres, and a reversal of the number seems to be a common theme among major league players.
