As of right now, the Brock Osweiler Saga is holding up the entire quarterback free agent market. Guys like Ryan Fitzpatrick are waiting to see what type of deal Osweiler can get in order to maximize their value on the market.
However, the Denver Broncos have already leaked information on a potential backup option if things do not work out with Osweiler.
That man is...Colin Kaepernick?
Kaepernick has wanted out of San Francisco after being benched earlier last season for Blaine Gabbert, but the two sides have also expressed some interest in staying together after a rough couple of seasons. While this may just be to save face, Kaepernick's situation is very much up in the air and anything could happen.
In 2014, Kaepernick signed a six-year contract extension, worth up to $126 million, including $54 million in potential guarantees, and $13 million fully guaranteed, but has never maximized his potential. In the same year, Kaepernick completed 60.5% of his passes for 3,369 yards, 19 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a 8-8 record. Things only went downhill from there for Kaep, as we all know. Could a change of scenery help the 28-year-old dual threat QB?
Reportedly, for some reason, the Denver Broncos are extremely interested in bringing Kaepernick in to take Peyton Manning's job and defend their world championship. If Rick Dennison and Gary Kubiak were able to win a Lombardi Trophy with Peyton "Noodle Arm" Manning as their quarterback, don't be surprised if they take a flyer on Kaepernick.
With Malik Jackson headed to Jacksonville, this could be an extremely tough season for the defending champs starting with if they cannot lock up Osweiler.
