Well, we all saw this coming. In the past hour, the Celtics announced that they bought out the contract of, now former Celtics forward, David Lee. After underperforming in the beginning of this season, and the sudden emergence of Kelly Olynyk and Jared Sullinger, Lee quietly fell out of the rotation.
With a fat, expiring contract of $15.49 million, the Celtics were hoping to package David Lee in a trade before Thursday's Trade Deadline in exchange for a superstar. Unfortunately, Danny Ainge was not able to swing a deal, and, as a result, David Lee was bought out to pursue other avenues. Danny Ainge says "[We] wish him nothing but the best in the future."
The Dallas Mavericks appear to be frontrunners to sign the NBA Champion. This also gives the Celtics an open roster spot, so be on the lookout for another move.
