After being cut by the New England Patriots a short time ago, it appears that Brandon LaFell is going to find a new home in the AFC.
According to ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio, "The Bengals and [LaFell] are closing in on striking a deal."
While Brandon LaFell is not going to be a #1 option on any team, with the departure of Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu, the Cincinnati Bengals are going to be in the market to re-stock their receiving corps. Aside from AJ Green, who may be one of, if not the, best receiver in the NFL, the Bengals are going to have a tough time slinging the football around to open wide-outs.
LaFell is not a top-flight receiver, but he has been able to post at least 500 receiving yards in five out of his first six seasons in the NFL. In 2015, however, LaFell had an extremely difficult, and injury-riddled season. Once returning from a foot injury that limited him to a career-low 11 games in 2015, LaFell could not hang onto the football. He was only able to record 37 catches for 515 yards and 0 touchdowns before being released in lieu of his $3.675 million 2016 cap hit.
Geoff Hobson of the Bengals official website reported that the Bengals could be interested in veterans Andre Johnson, Roddy White and Anquan Boldin if they are not able to land the former New England Patriot.
