The Red Sox and Yankees will look to close out the first series of the second half of the season tonight at 8 o'clock on ESPN. The Red Sox will be looking to sweep the series against the Bronx Bombers, who are spiraling out of control and into the world of irrelevance. With a win today, the Red Sox will pull within one game of the Baltimore Orioles, who fell today at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays, 5-2.
The Red Sox will be sending David Price to the mound, who is hoping to put together a dominant second half after failing to impress his new team up until this point in the season. We have seen flashes of dominance from David Price, specifically as of late, but on the whole it is hard to argue that Price has lived up to the richest contract handed out to a pitcher in MLB history. In his last start against the New York Yankees on May 7, David Price was shelled for six runs on seven hits, while only lasting 4.2 innings.
To counter Price, the Yankees will be sending their ace to the mound in Masahiro Tanaka. On an otherwise disappointing Yankee team, Tanaka has been one of the bright spots, as he has a 6-2 record and a 3.23 ERA. Tanaka has made eight starts against the Red Sox in his career, pitching to a 4-2 record and a 4.79 ERA.
In some quick lineup notes, Sandy Leon will be getting his second straight start, as he looks to build off of his massive four-RBI game yesterday. Additionally, Brock Holt will be making yet another start in left field, and looks to be almost fully recovered from his lingering concussion symptoms. Other than that, it is business as usual.
