After sending just 1 player to the 2015 All-Star game, the Red Sox will be sending at least 6 players this year. Brock Holt was the lone representative for the Red Sox last season, but what a difference a year makes.
Out of the 6 players, 4 are guaranteed starting spots, including:
David Ortiz - DH
Xander Bogaerts - SS
Mookie Betts - OF
Jackie Bradley Jr - OF
Two addtional players will make appearances but not starts, including:
Steven Wright - SP
Craig Kimbrel - RP
The squad heading to the 2016 All-Star game is the most representatives the Red Sox have had since 2011. The Sox have a chance to send 7 players, if Dustin Pedroia is voted in by this Friday.
Ortiz will make his 10th All-Star appearance in his 20th season, despite having ongoing problems with his feet. Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley and Xander Bogaerts will be making their All-Star game debuts, although many thought we should have seen them last year. Bradley and Betts will be the first outfield duo sent to the game by the Red Sox since Johnny Damon and Manny Ramirez in 2005.
The game will take place on Tuesday July 12 at 8:00PM, at Petco Park in San Diego.
