The Red Sox begin a short road trip in The Lone Star State against one of the hottest teams in all of baseball in the Texas Rangers. The Rangers are 8-2 in their last 10 games, and now hold a 10 game lead in the American League West over the Houston Astros. On Wednesday, it was announced that Nick Martinez would make his second straight start in the rotation, which is normally manned by Yu Darvish, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder injury. In Martinez's first start of the season on Saturday, he allowed three runs on six hits over 4.1 innings against the St. Louis Cardinals. On the season, Martinez is 1-1 with a 5.14 ERA in three total appearances.
The Red Sox will be sending their ace to the mound in David Price, who will be looking to get the Red Sox back to their winning ways after a tough home stand against the Chicago White Sox, where they lost three out of four games. Price has been dominant as of late, throwing at least eight innings in his past three starts, while also not allowing more than three runs. In his past eight starts, Price has thrown eight quality starts, hurling to a 4-3 record with a 2.47 ERA. In his career, Price has surprisingly struggled against the Texas Rangers, going 3-2 with a 6.54 ERA in eight career road starts in Arlington.
