I understand this is an unpopular opinion. And in fairness, Machado did actually seem to be concerned that Pedroia was hurt. That being said, Red Sox pitchers, please hit Manny Machado.
It doesn't have to be in the head. It doesn't have to be in any specific area. Just hit him with a pitch.
You have to show retaliation in this situation. It's part of baseball. Machado was dirty to you, you have to be dirty back. That's part of baseball. An unwritten rule of the game.
And to Pedroia: I love you as a player my man, but you have to back your teammates in this scenario. Obviously you don't want anyone to get hurt during this, but you have to remember that dirty plays/retaliation happens all the time.
Players don't play dirty partly because they fear retaliation. Matt Barnes didn't intend to throw at his head, but if you don't hit Machado, teams will take this as a message to play dirty against you.
We didn't start this fight, but we're definitely going to finish it.
