After another tough loss last night, the Red Sox will look to stop the bleeding as they send Rick Porcello to the mound. After having a sub-three ERA for an extended amount of time, Porcello has come back to earth since. However, in his last couple of starts, he has scrapped together some decent outings against good teams. On the season, Porcello has amassed a record of 7-2 with a 3.81 ERA. In his last start against the Minnesota Twins, Porcello gave up four runs (one earned) over seven innings in an eventual loss. At Fenway Park this season, according to ESPN, Porcello is perfect, hurling the baseball to a 5-0 record and a 3.03 ERA in five starts.
The Seattle Mariners will be sending Adrian Sampson to the mound, who was just recalled prior to this game in order to make the start. The 24-year-old was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates last July in the J.A. Happ deal. Sampson will be taking the spot of our injured old friend, Wade Miley. In 13 starts for Triple-A Tacoma, Sampson was 7-4 with a 3.25 ERA. I would say look for the Red Sox to jump on him early, but who the hell knows anymore.
