After a fantastic complete game performance by Rick Porcello last night, the Red Sox and Angels will meet for the third time in this four game set. Unlike the previous two nights, this is a 9 PM ET start time, just so no one misses a good chunk of the game. The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Baltimore Orioles this afternoon, meaning that the Red Sox can pull to within one game of first place in the American League East with a win.
The Red Sox will be sending Drew Pomeranz to the mound, who will be looking to build on his impressive outing last time out. In his last start, Pomeranz was able to go six innings, while only allowing two earned runs against the Detroit Tigers. While Pomeranz currently sports a 2.84 ERA, he has struggled in his career against the Angels, posting a 4.24 ERA in eight career appearances.
Anaheim will counter with Hector Santiago, who has been nothing short of extraordinary in the month of July. Santiago is 5-0 in the month of July, and has a 2.40 ERA in his last eight starts. On Monday, Santiago relinquished two runs on five hits and four walks in 5.1 innings against the Kansas City Royals. There has been much talk about Santiago being traded to a contender, so hopefully he will not be traded before the beginning of the game.
As you can see below, the Red Sox's lineup looks drastically different tonight than it has in the previous two games. David Ortiz is out of the lineup because he is obviously being traded, and Bryce Brentz is in left field for Brock Holt. We will again see Aaron Hill in the lineup, who will hopefully be able to get it going at some point soon.
