The New England Patriots clearly needed a reliable running back last year and are already aggressively seeking new players to fill that void through free agency.
One of their new targets was just released in a report from New York Daily News’ Manish Mehta.
Bilal Powell finished his fifth season in the green with 313 rushing yards on 70 attempts and a score and 388 receiving yards on 47 catches on 63 targets while catching two touchdowns.
His stats don’t exactly jump off the page and scream that he’s a bonafide number one running back but he can clearly give you some depth in the running game and be an elusive pass catcher as well.
Against the Patriots, he ran for 56 yards on seven attempts and caught five passes for 34 yards in a losing effort in overtime in late December.
With Dion Lewis coming back and being the only sure-fire running back, the addition of Powell would be huge since he can wreak such havoc from both aspects in the running back position.
The need for a number one, three-down back is still prevalent and will hopefully be continued to be dealt with as free agency opens up today.
