The Hoodie has done it again! Over the course of the past 36 hours, the New England Patriots were heavily linked to New Orleans speedy wide receiver, Brandin Cooks. The only thing holding up the trade was the price. We heard star cornerback, Malcolm Butler's name tossed around in the rumors, which angered the hardest die-hard Patriots fans out there. But yet again, I must say: Don't. Doubt. The. Hoodie. Time and time again this man has come through with deals that are perfect for the Patriots.
The barometers of the trade include the Patriots giving up their 1st round pick (32nd overall) and their 3rd round pick (103rd overall) to New Orleans for Wide Receiver, Brandin Cooks (24 in September), and the Saints 4th round pick (118th overall). So not only do the Patriots add a possible elite vertical threat, in Brandin Cooks, they have done so without giving up Malcolm Butler, who in my opinion didn't sign that first round tender out of frustration about being dealt.
The New England Patriots now have supplied Tom Brady with one the deepest receiving cores in all of football, with the likes of Edelman, Hogan, Mitchell, Amendola(TBD), and now Brandin Cooks. To go on top of that, they have tight ends, Rob Gronkowski as well as recently acquired Dwayne Allen, from the Colts.
Cooks will likely be a guy the Patriots use primarily out of the slot, but can definitely be used on the outside to take the top off the defense along with Chris Hogan. Creating an offense that will surely make defenses cry to their respective mommies after taking vicious beatings every Sunday.
As Free Agency continues, the Pats look to retain their top 2 free agents, Dont'a Hightower and Malcolm Butler. And now that Cooks has just been acquired, the pieces seem to all be falling into place for the defending champs.
