Soccer superstar Lionel Messi and his father Jorge Horacio Messi were both found guilty of 3 counts of tax fraud. Messi was sentenced to 21 months in jail, 7 months for each count, but will not see any jail time.
In Spain, sentences of less than 2 years for first time offenders are suspended, therefore, neither he nor his father will see the inside of a cell. However, Messi does need to keep his record clean during that time.
Along with the 21 month jail sentence, Messi was fined $2.3 million by a Barcelona court. His father was also fined $1.7 million. Legal representatives of both clients claimed they had no knowledge of their misdoings.
