On a day where the football season officially comes to an end, the drama and the unanswered questions still remain regarding Tom Brady's friendship with the POTUS, Donald Trump, and the open refusal of Patriots stars, Devin McCourty and Martellus Bennett, to go to the White House when the Patriots go as part of their victory lap for winning Super Bowl LI.
All I have to say to that is: Who cares? Seriously. We watch professional sports for entertainment and to watch the best in the world play the sport that many of us never could play but always enjoyed. I don't turn on the TV to find out who Tom Brady voted for, or Martellus Bennett, or LeBron James, Mookie Betts, or whoever. I watch sports because I enjoy them, not for a political lecture.
It's just sickening that even the most die-hard fans of sports teams are burning all of their gear because they cannot represent a team that "supports" Donald Trump. Seriously, grow up. It's not a big deal. Many of these athletes, like Tom Brady, probably don't pay attention to politics. Brady probably figured he played golf with the guy, he supported the organization when Kraft's wife died, so he'd support his friend. I'm sure he has little to no idea as to what is going on in the real world, because he's too busy preparing to reach his ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl.
As for Bennett and McCourty? Once again, who cares? Sure, from my perspective I feel like it would be an honor to meet the leader of the free world and, regardless of my political preference, I'd probably go anyway. But not everyone feels the same way. And I'm sorry, but they have every right to do and think that. Even if the average citizen thinks it's a bad look, I'm sure they don't care. And honestly, we shouldn't either.
We watch these athletes play because they're the best in the world, and they play for our teams. It's just sickening that people are letting political preference, or friendships, interfere with watching teams we fell in love with, some longer ago than others.
Pull up your big boy/girl pants, because not everyone agrees with you. Just face it, and live your life as you normally would. Stop crying like babies.
