On Thursday night, The Patriots opened up the season with a solid win against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 2014 Super Bowl banner was raised and Gillette was as fired up as I’ve ever seen. Overall the Patriots played really well, much better than the opening loss to the Dolphins last year. Gronk had 3 touchdowns and was a huge factor throughout the game. Edelman had 11 receptions and 97 yards. The newly exonerated Touchdown Tommy threw for 288 yards with 4 touchdowns and completed 25-32 passes.
Overall, I was very pleased with the offense especially considering how it was very questionable the first four games of last season. I liked what I saw out of Malcolm Butler in particular on the defensive side. The end outcome was a victory for the Patriots, winning 28-21 over Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, Mike Tomlin, in an attempt to downplay the victory is claiming the Patriots are cheating. During the game, the headsets of the Steelers coaching staff were playing local Boston Sports radio stations.
Tomlin claimed that this happens every time his team plays at Gillette and is claiming the Patriots had involvement in it. This false accusation comes only a few days after the “OTL” report by ESPN on Spygate, which for the record happened back when George W. Bush was still president over seven years ago. It is clear that everyone is after the Patriots in any way possible. Although this is annoying, I think it will only fuel the fire and the Patriots will dominate this season and play angry. The best way to make the NFL, ESPN, Colts, Ravens, Steelers, Etc. look bad is to keep winning games and blowing out the competition.
