For the 7th time this season, Lewis Hamilton won from pole position in his Mercedes-Benz AMG Petronas F1 car to stay alive in his hunt for a third consecutive drivers championship. Nico Rosberg, who came in second place, still holds a 26-point advantage in the championship. Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo rounded out the podium with his third-place finish.
18-year-old Max Verstappen had a rough race after qualifying in 4th place. The young Dutchman made an unscheduled pit stop which caught his mechanics off-guard. After a long stop, Max experienced a gearbox failure and was forced to pull to the side of the track on lap 28. Kimi Raikkonen also had pit troubles in Austin. On lap 38, the Fin had his Ferrari serviced with a fresh set of tires, but one of the rear tires was not properly secured forcing Raikkonen to retire from the race.
Four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel started in 6th but was able to finish in 4th after the retirements of Raikkonen and Verstappen. A Ferrari has not finished on the podium since the Italian Grand Prix in September and has not won a race since 2015.

The 5th edition of the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas was a success after a shaky 2015 race. In 2015, torrential downpours plagued the weekend event. This past week, organizers could not have planned for better weather. Each day was sunny with temperatures in the 80s. The event was not all about racing. On Saturday after afternoon qualifying, Taylor Swift performed her first outdoor concert of 2016 performing in front of 80,000 spectators.
Mercedes have dominated the sport since 2014 and just recently clinched a third consecutive title. Next season, new regulations are being instituted in hopes of resetting and leveling the field for the 11 teams and 22 drivers.
Lastly, Formula 1 is currently not very big in the United States but this is expected to change very soon. Formula 1 has just been sold to an American company who hope to grow the sport throughout the country. They hope to add another race in America in the near future.
