Former Saints and Patriots defensive end Will Smith was shot to death after a road rage incident on Saturday night. The incident took place in New Orleans' Lower Garden district.
Smith got into an altercation after a driver rear ended him, causing him to collide with another vehicle in front of them. After exchanging words, Smith was shot multiple times and eventually pronounced dead at the scene. Smith's wife, Racquel, was also shot multiple times in the leg and remains in a nearby hospital.
New Orleans police say that the shooter is in custody and being questioned about the incident. The gun used to shoot Smith and his wife has been recovered. Pierre Thomas was said to be out with the couple before the incident occurred and later appeared on scene.
Will Smith was a former first round pick in 2004 out of Ohio State. Smith spent 9 seasons with the Saints from 2004-2013, and was a member of the New England Patriots practice squad in 2014.
