As Boston fans, we have become accustomed to the "us against the world" mentality when it comes to the teams we love. Whether it's the Celtics, Red Sox, Bruins, or the Patriots (especially), people find reasons to hate the franchise, its players, and the fans.
As a result, we as a fanbase have developed quite a bit of bitterness towards certain opposing players, teams, officials, and fans. The list of people/organizations we have grown to hate is quite a long one, but these are five people or organizations that I personally feel should be high on every Boston fan's bad list.
1. Roger Goodell and the National Football League
This one is pretty self-explanatory. Due to hatred and jealousy towards the Patriots and the team's success, Goodell and the NFL went on a tear in 2015 trying to find something to discredit the franchise's winning. The Patriots and we, as a fanbase, are seen as arrogant, and everyone and their mother wants to see the entire operation discredited and "exposed."
Goodell and the league leaked false information, attempted to publicly tear apart the character of others, and found any way possible to "protect the shield." The entire NFL is utterly corrupt, and we have plenty of reasons to hate Goodell and his buddies.
2. ESPN and its Reporters
Sports media giant ESPN did most of the dirty work for Goodell and the league during the entire "DeflateGate" mess. The NFL used its partnership with ESPN to have little bits of false information leaked and damage the Patriots' reputation. When they weren't falsely reporting the entire story, they were taking valid information out of context to fit their anti-Patriot agenda.
3. Peyton Manning
Manning has been Tom Brady's biggest rival for the entirety of his career. Both were among the top quarterbacks in the league for much of their time in the NFL. But that's not why we hate him. He's hated in Boston primarily because of the treatment he gets from people in the national media. Brady is clearly the better quarterback, but because of a lot of anti-Patriot opinion around the country, people constantly talk up Manning as if Brady can't even compare with him.
Recently, our distaste for Manning grew even more due to the fact that allegations of steroid use by Manning was swept under the rug and considered a "non-story." The NFL tried to tear Tom Brady's character to pieces to do a possible deflation of footballs, but Manning has drawn even more backing due to his allegations.
4. The Entire New York Giants Organization
If you have been alive for the last 15 or so years this one should need no explanation. In 2007, the Patriots fielded the greatest team in NFL history. Powered by a record-setting season from Tom Brady, the team was undefeated heading into the Super Bowl with the chance to achieve a record that no team in history had reached. The team was then heartbreakingly defeated by the Giants in improbable fashion.
The team then faced the Giants in the 2012 Super Bowl, only to be upset once again by a New York team that many did not even expect to be there.
5. LeBron James
Personally, I'm probably more invested in the Celtics than any of our four major teams. The majority of my childhood revolved around the Paul Pierce Celtics, and that involved a lot of meetings with LeBron James. When the team brought in Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, we saw even more of LeBron as the team consistently reached the playoffs.
LeBron and his entire attitude towards things lead many people to despise him, but our feelings towards him are stronger due to the playoff meetings and the fact that he brought the Miami Heat back in the final two games of the 2012 Eastern Conference Finals to prevent one more chance at a title, inevitably leading to the end of the Big 3 in Boston.
