Craig Sager, who works for TBS and TNT, will be a sideline reporter for game 6 of the Finals, on ABC. Sager will be working alongside ESPN’s usual sideline reporter, Doris Burke. In 2014, Sager was diagnosed with a form of leukemia and went on to miss the entire 2014 postseason. In 2016, it was announced that Sager’s cancer had returned and that he had 3 to 6 months to live.
VP of Turner Sports, Tara August, called Sager during the Western Conference Finals to weigh Sager’s interest. Sager was interested in doing the Finals as long as it did not take away any opportunities from those working for ESPN. The only game that worked for Sager was game 6 because he was scheduled to undergo 8 days of chemo in Houston, starting after the Western Conference Finals.
Sager, is known for his flamboyant suits during NBA telecasts. He had to buy a new Neiman and Marcus suit since he thought he was finished for the year.
