With a ridiculous number of guards, the one thing holding the Celtics back is a solid post presence. Demarcus Cousins has been thrown around as a potential candidate for that spot, but he's a guy that might cost the Celtics a little more than what they're willing to give up (ie. Evan Turner, Marcus Smart). However, there aren't many big men out there who are potentially on the block and suit the C's' needs in the paint.
So who's a quality big man that's cheaper than Boogie?
That guy is Brook Lopez. Now Lopez has a history of injuries that have really derailed his production over the past few seasons, but when healthy, the guy can score with the best of them, as well as rebound.
Brook Lopez may not be a top 3 big man in the NBA, but he certainly is someone who could play on the Celtics and really give their offense some balance.
Also, Brooklyn is in rebuild mode.
The Brooklyn Nets are not going to make the playoffs, plain and simple. Thus, making guys like Lopez more available than in recent years. He won't be cheap, but he's a cheaper option than Cousins.
So who would Boston have to give up?
My guess is, Olynyk or Johnson would be going along with David Lee, and maybe a James Young-type player. Along with a couple second round picks or a first and second.
As long as that first round pick isn't the Nets pick, I'm more than willing to part ways with a draft pick for a guy like Brook Lopez. He's a great post player, rebounder, and passing big man. Not to mention that he fills a huge hole on the Celtics offense.
What are you guys' thoughts on Lopez? Are you willing to trade for him?
