Just hear me out on this one for a second. I know that there have been a trio of powerhouses that have dominated the college basketball scene for the better part of the entire season. Kentucky has not been beat and looks to be on the path to an undefeated season. Virginia has consistently been magnificent and look poised to give Kentucky all they can handle. Gonzaga creeped up on us all, but have since cemented themselves as one of the best teams in the country.
However, I think that there are a couple dark horses that could give any one of those teams a run for their money. Being the biased Irish Bostonian that I am, I believe that one of those teams is Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish have put together one of the best seasons in Notre Dame history and look to be on a crash course for the NCAA Tournament.
To be honest, I have been off and on about Notre Dame since the start of the season. I thought that they were just a skilled team that was beating teams that they should. However, after beating Duke in Durham, I started to believe in this team. The Fighting Irish have the low post presence in Massachusetts native Zach Auguste, while also being led from the three point line by another Massachusetts native and senior Captain Pat Connaughton.
