Remember when Patriot fans were complaining a couple days ago that the Pats weren't doing anything? From Bill to the people, you're welcome.
The Patriots were able to acquire a Pro Bowl tight end in exchange for what? A swap of picks? A compensatory pick? I will take that any day.
Martellus Bennett has had some contract disputes and injuries with the Bears, but no on can deny that he is one of the more talented tight ends in the league. Last season before going down with a season-ending injury, Bennett was able to haul in 53 receptions for 439 yards and 3 TDs in 11 games.
At 6-foot-6 and 273 pounds, the 29-year-old is looking to revitalize his career with a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
Could this mean that the Patriots will use more two, heavy tight end sets that we have not seen since Aaron Hernandez (RIP)? The Patriots are receiving a tight end that would be a legitimate #1 TE on almost every team, but not here. Scary move by the Pats.
This is a very interesting move that could completely change this offense. Will they still go after a deep threat? Time will tell.
