South African Branden Grace carded a final round 66 to win the Heritage by 2 shots. Luke Donald and Russell Knox finished tied for second at -7. Luke Donald led the tournament going into Sunday, but was outplayed by Grace, who recorded 7 birdies and 2 bogeys during his round.
Branden Grace is a regular on the European Tour and the Sunshine Tour of Southern Africa. This victory is his first on the PGA Tour. The win marks his 11th career worldwide victory.
Jason Day came to South Carolina as the favorite to win. After leading at the halfway mark, Day carded a third round 79 to shoot himself out of contention.
The winner of the Heritage is awarded a plaid jacket. It’s ironic because the Heritage is held the week after the winner of the Masters is given the green jacket. The two jackets are just a coincidence.
Next week on the PGA Tour is the Valero Texas Open. Last year, Jimmy Walker won by 4 shots over Texan Jordan Spieth. Walker is expected to defend and complete alongside Brandt Snedeker, Phil Mickelson, and Zach Johnson. First round coverage starts Thursday.
