Well, that was anticlimactic for every Bills fan hoping, wishing, and praying to steal one from the Champs. Sigh. The final score really didn’t do the game justice, as that was a total and utter annihilation for all intents and purposes. 40 really could have (should have) been 50, or more. Don’t believe everything you see on TV folks, especially when you’re watching ESPN or NFL Network on Sunday mornings. The redemption (bleep everyone?) tour continues in Foxboro this Sunday against the lowly Jaguars, who should forget about the game plan and start prepping for their solemn press conferences after the game. Brady is coming, and there’s really nothing anybody can do about it. 2 down, 17 to go. Let’s go around the table and see what the BBS staff thinks…
Tom Brady: Over/Under 300 yards passing?
Niko: Believe it or not…OVER. I was going to go under here, because I think Blount will be back in the mix and this game should be in hand by the 3rd, but I’m not sure I have the ability to bet against Tom. He’ll spread the ball around and edge it out.
Pete: I truthfully don't think that Brady will play the entire game, but if these past two weeks are any indication of the Patriots offensive scheme for the season, it looks like Brady is going to throw it. A lot. I will go OVER just because its the Jaguars.
Spence: I am going to go over. Even though I think Brady won't play much he still will manage because he has been on a tear the past two games and plus its the Jaguars. Plus Edelman has been on a tear too.
Blake Bortles: Over/Under 225 yards passing?
Niko: I’ll go OVER for Blake here too. They’re going to be down and slinging it. Jacksonville loves to go deep and I think Bortles has one long ball connection in him, probably at the expense of Bradley Fletcher.
Pete: If the Patriots are able to score often and early, I don't think Jacksonville has any other option than to chuck it deep. I am going to go OVER, but I don't think that it will amount to a lot of scoring. Bend, don't break.
Spence: Over, I think the Patriots will force Bortles to throw the ball and he will throw it often. I think he will get over 225, but its not guying to be pretty.
Allen Robinson: Over/Under 65 receiving yards, and .5 touchdowns?
Niko: I’ll go OVER on the yards, and OVER on the touchdown. At 6’3, 215 Robinson has great size, and is starting to show a real repertoire with his quarterback, as displayed by his 6 catch, 155-yard effort last week against Miami. He’ll probably get double digit targets, catch about half, and break one for more than 25. I like this kid.
Pete: I will admit, I haven't watched a lot of Jacksonville (who really has?), but I know this kid can catch the football. He loves going deep and should be targeted often just because of his sheer size alone. I will go OVER on yards, and UNDER on touchdowns. I don't see the Patriots giving up a lot of points this game.
Spence: Over on yards and under on touchdowns. Bend but don't break!
Rob Gronkowski: Over/Under 85 receiving yards and 1.5 touchdowns?
Niko: The .5 touchdown line was becoming too much of a layup for Gronk…I’ll go OVER on yards and UNDER the 1.5. He’ll find the end zone once for sure, but I’m hesitant to say twice.
Pete: I expect Gronkowski to have a huge role in the offensive gameplan for the Patriots come Sunday. There is no question he will have OVER 85 yards, but asking how many times he will score is a better question. I am going to go OVER and I will even tell you how he scores them. One will be from the red zone and the other will be a rainbow pass from Brady right into Gronk's massive mitts. 40-50 yard TD. Book it.
Spence: I expect Gronk will be on a tear against Jacksonville. No way they can stop him over on the yards and over on the touchdowns. Im expecting to even see 2-3 tds out of him.
Juian Edelman: Over/Under 9.5 catches?
Niko: OVER. Right in the neighborhood, but he’ll get it.
Pete: I want to say under just because he has had two huge games and is due for a quiet day, but Edelman is Brady's #1 target if he needs a sure handed reception. I will go OVER.
Spence: Over, the guy has been on a tear the blast two games and I don't expect him to slow down. I think were looking at a Wes Welker 2007 year for Edelman.
Game Total: Over/Under 48 Points?
Niko: OVER. Pats will threaten by themselves. If Buffalo can somehow end up with 32, the Jags can muster something up.
Pete: Like Niko, I think the Patriots will threaten 48 points themselves, so I will go OVER. Jacksonville just doesn't have any answers for this tenacious offensive unit.
Spence: I think the fact that the game last week was high scoring against a defense like Buffalo's then there is no telling how many points the Patriots themselves will put up this week. I think 50 isn't out of the question.
Do the Patriots cover? (-13.5)
Niko: Uhhh, ya. It’s the freaking Jaguars. Plus, if throwing the ball with 3 minutes left up two scores last weekend didn’t make it obvious; the Pats want blood this year. I’ll say something along the lines of 37-17.
Pete: Absolutely. If these past two games have been any indication of how this team is going to play, we know they want to destroy every team that stands in their path to Super Bowl 50. Even if the Patriots take out most of their starters. our second unit is still better than the Jaguars.
Spence: Easily I'm going with 50-14. Absolute slaughter.
Niko: Going on the defensive side of the ball with this one. I’ll say Jabaal Sheard gets a sack and half. I’ve really liked what we’ve seen from him so far this season as the 3rd end, and there’s no reason to think the pass rush can’t infiltrate the Jag’s shaky and banged up O-line.
Pete: This is tough just because I think everyone is going to have such a good day. I will say that Danny Amendola has a breakout game. 7 catches for 56 yards and a TD. After last week's incredible catch, Brady has even more confidence in the little guy.
Spence: I think Julian Edelman will have 13 catches. I think even though he's had amazing games the last two weeks, he and Brady are going to get in a rhythm from the start and its not going to slow down at all.
