The most recent episode of Ballers on Sunday was probably the best of the season thus far. The episode starts with Spencer talking to Jason on the phone. Both are worried for Vernon’s future with the Cowboys after management hung up on Vernon when he came clean with the cause of his injury. Spencer sits down with his lover Tracy and learns that she got a job in Connecticut to work for ESPN. This means she will have to move up north ending her involvement with Spencer.
Meanwhile, Jason drove his 1961 Corvette into the Everglades in order to recruit a star Florida State linebacker named Travis Mach. Travis does not have an agent and already skipped the NFL combine. He might not know it yet, but he could use Jason’s help. Travis takes Jason on a ride through the swamp on his airboat before leaving him. Jason eventually makes his way back to Travis’ house and calls out all his flaws. Travis respects this and decides to sign with Jason.
Ricky Jarrett left New Orleans without a contract because he wants to weigh his options. He decides to spend the day out with his dad. These two seem to have repaired their relationship. Ricky’s father refuses to answer any questions Ricky has had since he left when he was a child. The two get in a fight at a bar before the father leaves. Ricky goes back to his father’s house; cracks open a beer, and looks through his father’s old stuff.
Next we have Charles Greene. His storyline has definitely been the most dry on the show so far. This episode, he pays Mr. Seifert a visit. Charles believes the meeting is about moving to left tackle but instead, the Dolphin’s decide to cut Charles. Charles now believes his career is over despite his wife’s encouragement.
Spencer and Joe continue their war with Andre. Joe paid old friend Maximo a visit. Joe wanted some dirt on Andre. Spencer and Joe then met Andre at a restaurant to settle the feud. Spencer threatens Andre with the envelope of dirt. Andre counters by saying that will not work, and that it wouldn’t be hard to dig up dirt on Joe. The war between Spencer and Andre continues.
Lastly, we finally learn Vernon’s fate. Reggie and Vernon watch ESPN before Spencer shows up for support. The news conference comes on and the Cowboy’s say Vernon was injured training for the season and that he is expected to make a full return to the Cowboys. It is later revealed that Spencer called the Cowboys on Vernon’s behalf and convinced them to keep Vern.
