Danilo Gallinari of the Denver Nuggets is a fun player to watch. He is very tall for a SF at 6-10 with ball skills like a guard. He is also a prolific shooter who has never really been able to play a full season. Nevertheless, he would be a perfect fit in Boston. The league is going small and every year more and more teams go with the slightly smaller PF who can shoot and run the floor rather than the lumbering big man to handle the post. Gallinari would create some excellent lineup options for Brad Stevens whether it be Crowder at the 3 and Gallinari at the 4 or even Bradley at the 3 and Gallinari at the 4.
I do not think it would take much to get an expiring Gallinari either. Some fans might gawk at the idea of trading away Jared Sullinger but I think a straight up swap of those two would be perfect. Sully has never really fit in around here whether it be weight concerns or just poor play. Gallinari would bring this young Celtics squad a veteran leader that would mesh well with most of this team. The Celtics would be able to have mostly every lineup have a legit 3 point shooter if Gallinari was packing his bags for Boston.
Markieff Morris is not really a household name, but he should be. Spence previously talked about Morris earlier in the season. He averaged 15 and 6 last year to go with over a steal per game and played all 82 games at the age of 25. Markieff is a player that just needs an elite coach to bring the best out of him. Brad Stevens is an elite coach. Markieff is better right now, today, on October 7th, than Jared Sullinger ever will be in his entire career. That may be a bit strong, but I truly believe trading for Morris would be an A+ move for the Celtics. And it wouldnt cost as much as you would think.
Markieff demanded a trade in the offseason after the Suns traded his brother, Marcus Morris. Now, unfortunately, the Suns called his bluff and have kept him to this point. I do not think he stays with the Suns the entire year. The Suns would be a very good team in the Eastern Conference, but in a loaded Western Conference they just will not be able to compete. It would make sense to sell one of their better players who doesnt even want to be there for younger players and picks they can build around. Ainge should be looking to do moves like this to maximize the Celtics chances of competing in the East this year.
This is the pipe dream every Celtics fan should be praying for each and every day. The rumors started when Cousins was not happy with the team and the Celtics, with their plethora of assets, were a logical destination. The waters have gotten murkier since June but it still is within the realm of possibility Cousins could get traded. I do not need to list off the reasons DeMarcus Cousins is good, he is elite and exactly what the Celtics need.
Some names I could see the Celtics dealing in order to get a deal done; Avery Bradley, Marcus Smart, Kelly Olynyk, Jared Sullinger, Evan Turner. Trader Danny would obviously have to swallow some pride and trade a bunch, like 3, first round draft picks in order to make this work. It would still all be worth it, and if any team is dumb enough to trade a star like Cousins, it is the Sacramento Kings.
Hope you guys are liking the Celtics blogs, more to come as the season draws closer!
