Sunny San Diego was not so sunny this weekend for the playing of the Farmers Insurance Open. Torrey Pines, home of 2 golf courses, a North and South course, hosted this week’s open. The beautiful late week weather broke for a stormy weekend. Play on Sunday during the final round was started and restarted 3 seperate times.
Brandt Snedeker shot a final round 69 in windy and raining conditions. He finished his round just before play was stopped for a final time. After bogeying his opening hole, Snedeker played the final 17 holes without a bogey. He birdied the 10th hole to get back to even par on the day. He then made three straight birdies on holes 12-14. Snedeker lead the tournament in the clubhouse after posting a 3 under 69. Jimmy Walker, who was still on the course when play was suspended, lead by one shot at 7 under.
Play resumed at 10:00 on Monday after the course was cleared of debris from the storm a day prior. The conditions were still very windy, which favored Snedeker. Jimmy Walker gave up his lead after making 4 bogeys to finish his tournament. Brandt Snedeker won the Farmers Insurance Open without hitting a shot on Monday. 23 players did not break 80 during the final day, at least 11 strokes higher than Snedeker's score.
Next up on the PGA Tour, The Waste Management Phoenix Open from TPC Scottsdale. This tournament is known for the stadium seating assembled completely around the par 3 16th. These stands house some of the rowdiest fans in golf. This was also the sight of one of Tiger Woods’ most famous shots:
Those expected to complete include Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, and Rickie Fowler. Opening round coverage kicks off on Thursday from Arizona.
