So I first want to preface this by saying my thoughts and prayers are with Lamar and his family and I hope he makes a strong recovery. Now that that’s out of the way, on a Tuesday night people can be doing a variety of different things. I for one was studying for an Econ mid term. Lamar Odom had other plans for his Tuesday night. He was found in a Nevada Brothel unconscious from an overdose on “herbal Viagra”. Again I want to reiterate that this was indeed a Tuesday night. As the great Dave Portnoy said during the rundown yesterday “Look if you’re in a brothel overdosed on herbal Viagra on a Tuesday night that’s on you."
I think he’s spot on with that point. Seriously, I know Lamar is only 35 years old and probably could still be playing basketball and contributing to an NBA team, but I’m sure he could be playing overseas. At the very least he could be doing some thing not as destructive as being in a brothel on a Tuesday night. I mean, come on. That’s like something straight out of Game of Thrones. It’s been a sad free fall for a guy who is a two-time NBA champion and once the Sixth Man of the Year on some great Laker teams.
He was also a reality TV star and was married to Khloe Kardashian in 2009. For anyone who has never seen the show they lived in a humongous house in Tarzana, CA (The Valley). I mean that thing was sweet; the swimming pool alone was incredible it could comfortably fit the entire BBS staff. Lamar during his NBA career made earnings of 100+ million dollars. I know he went through a lot at various times in his life, but seriously that is the picture perfect life, if I can have one fourth of his life I would be abundantly happy.
The sad part is he was living this great life as little as five years ago. So where did it all go wrong? I personally think it all started with him getting traded from the Lakers. He clearly had a great life in LA and was on a great team that had a purpose. I like Dallas a lot and it’s a great city and team, but it clearly was not the right fit for him. I think it caused tension in his marriage with Khloe Kardashian since she was forced to move away from her family in LA for the brief time that he was on the Mavs. From there it’s a little questionable what went down.
He got cut from the Mavs, then played briefly for LAC right before Doc came and many would’ve thought that would’ve been a good situation for Lamar, but it was very brief. Then he got divorced from Khloe Kardashian and started getting back into some hardcore drugs. Then everything just snowballed on him. Hopefully Lamar makes a recovery and can somehow get his life back on track.
