After a tough couple of nights, the Red Sox will be looking to salvage the series and pick up a game before returning home for another long home stand. The Red Sox will be sending their ace to the mound, as David Price looks for his sixth win in a Red Sox uniform. After being extremely up-and-down to start the season, Price returned to the form that gained him a Cy Young award, lasting 6.2 innings, striking out 12 and allowing only one earned run. In five starts against the Kansas City Royals in his career, Price has gone 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA.
For Kansas City, they will be sending out one of their better starters in Edinson Volquez. On the season, Volquez is 4-3 with a 3.51 ERA. In his last start against Atlanta, Volquez went seven strong innings, allowing one earned run but only striking out two. In four starts against the Red Sox, Volquez is 1-0 with a 4.32 ERA.
The Red Sox need to play angry if they want to pick up this game in Kansas City. Too often have we seen Boston players complaining about the strike zone instead of battling through the adversity. This is a tough and gritty team, but I feel as if they have gotten away from that playing style in these past two games against Kansas City. Against one of the better teams in the American League, regardless of their record, I would like to see David Price prove that he has shaken off the cobwebs and for Boston's bats to return to form.
