Celtics legend and future Hall-Of-Famer, Paul Pierce, still hasn't decided whether or not he wants to play one more season in the NBA. This would make for his 19th season, but coach Doc Rivers says the chances that Pierce will play again for 2016-2017 are 50-50.
Doc went on to say that he told Pierce if he sees him show up to training camp, he will assume that he is in for one more year. Rivers also added that what remains the most important thing is that Paul Pierce retires a Celtic and Rivers said he will do whatever he can to make that happen.
Personally as a guy who grew up with Paul Pierce pretty much as my idol its sad to see him finally coming to the end of his career. I have to admit its been a shame to see the way his play has declined over the past 3-4 seasons since Pierce departed the Celtics in a trade to the Brooklyn Nets.
Even though the Celtics are headed in the right track and are going to be even better this season, something about it just isn't the same without Paul Pierce. He was the heart and soul of the franchise and when people refer to the Celtics I will always think of those teams with the Big Three and before that, when Pierce carried the team on his shoulders.
I am very fortunate to have grown up with Paul Pierce as the face of Celtics Nation through the good years and the bad. Whether he decides to play this year or not, I hope to see Paul come back to his rightful home in some way or another. If Pierce does hang them up, a job with the front office of the Celtics would be very interesting, to say the least.
