While many of us were watching Green Bay take on Seattle in an NFC Conference Championship rematch, myself included, the Bruins kicked off their preseason against the New Jersey Devils. The NHL Preseason, in my opinion, is one of the most boring things to watch on this planet, but hey, hockey is hockey.

The Bruins are looking to put last season's abysmal performance behind them and get back into contention in 2016. With the departure of former Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli, Don Sweeney was given the reigns to the team and made a plethora of moves that are noticeable looking towards the future. Fan favorite Milan Lucic was traded to the LA Kings, while young defenseman Dougie Hamilton was sent to the Calgary Flames. Both moves netted the Bruins key draft picks, which, many thought at least, were going to translate into big time NHL players.

Unfortunately, the Bruins hung onto all of the draft picks and picked 13, 14, 15 in this years NHL draft. They also picked up Matt Belresky and Dorchester's own Jimmy Hayes. Both of these moves were great value picks and should prove valuable to the B's.

Last night, the Bruins were able to get the W behind Matt Irwin's two power play goals, but did commit six penalties, which is something to keep an eye out for in the future. All in all, it is great to have hockey back into the mix of all our sports talk.
