Tough night if you are the Red Sox. After putting together a five-run inning, Red Sox knuckleballer Steven Wright could not get it going on a rainy and cold night at Fenway Park. Similarly, Astros starter Lance McCullers lasted only 4.2 innings, allowing seven hits and five runs before being run out of the game. The Astros offense was able to bail out some terrible pitching in similar fashion to what the Red Sox usually do.
Ace Wright never seemed comfortable, lasting only 4.1 innings allowing nine hits and five earned runs. After Wright, Matt Barnes came in for relief and gave up a massive two-run home run to his buddy and former teammate George Springer in the sixth inning. Travis Shaw hit his fifth home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but it was not enough as the Red Sox dropped their first game in their last six contests, 7-6.
Next up, Clay Buchholz heads to the mound for a Saturday afternoon game. Check back in for a full-game preview, as always.
